Learn How to Generate or Print a Home Education Report PDF
One of Strew users favourite features of our little home education app is the ability to print out home ed reports, for sharing with family, or to contribute to reporting home education progress.
This knowledgebase article explains the basics of how to make reports in Strew:

Strew Home Ed Reports
Finding the Print option in Strew Home Ed
To get to the print/PDF screen in Strew, click the menu icon (top left), it looks like this:

Then select “Print” from the menu which pops up!
Filtering Home Ed Activities
From your Print Report screen you can apply optional filters which will select what your PDF report will include.
Filter Activities by Tag or Study Bucket:
You can choose to only include home education activities which are tagged a certain tag, or which have a specific Study Point associated with them. For example:
- Leave them as “All” -> Everything gets included
- Select a Tag and/or a Study Bucket -> Only activities with these will be included
Filter Activities by Date Range:
You can further filter activities by specifying a date range. Pick from options such as:
- The last 7 days (rolling week)
- The last 30 days (rolling month)
- This year (within the current year)
- The last 365 days (rolling year)
- Custom date range (you specify a start and end date)

Report Page Backgrounds:
This print option lets you pick stylised backgrounds for your reports (useful if you’re sending to family and want to jazz up the PDF).
Here are a few examples of stylised report backgrounds you can use in Strew.

Generating and Printing PDF Reports:
From the print screen in Strew you can either Generate a PDF (for sharing), or directly print a report:
Generate PDF Home Ed Report:
Generating a report PDF creates the report as a shareable file that you can send to family. Once generated you can share this via the various apps you have on your phone (e.g. email, message, Whatsapp or Telegram).
Please note, all activity data is stored solely on your phone. Generating a report and sharing it would be you passing the data outside of your phone, so just be sure you’re happy with that before you share any report.
Print Home Education Report:
Printing a report will generate a PDF behind the scenes and then prompt you on your phone to print directly to a phone-connected printer (usually through Wifi).

New: From v1.0.9 (early July 2025) you can now select which font to use when generating a home ed report!
Currently you can choose from these fonts:
Roboto

Nunito

Open Sans

* Please note, if you’re having issues with garbled text on reports, it’s worth trying a different report font!

> App Crashes when I try to Print/Generate a Report
If Strew is crashing when you try to make a report the first thing to check is your devices disk space. Strew needs space to generate your report (these are much smaller after v1.0.6), if you have no disk space left that might be a reason for a crash!
Checking Disk-Space on iOS (iOS 17 & 18)
- Open
Settings
from the Home Screen. - Tap General → iPhone Storage.
A colour-coded bar and a numeric read-out show how much space is used vs. available. - Scroll to see a list of apps, sorted by size.
Tap any app → Offload App (keeps documents, removes the app) or Delete App to reclaim space. - At the top of the list, use Apple’s one-tap suggestions such as “Review Large Attachments” or “Empty Recently Deleted” for Photos.
- Need even more detail? In Files app → On My iPhone, long-press a file or folder → Get Info to read its exact size.
Tip: If you’re running an older release (iOS 15 or earlier), the path is Settings → General → Storage & iCloud Usage → Manage Storage.
Checking Disk-Space on Android (Android 14 / 15 & Pixel)
- Open
Settings
(gear icon). - Scroll to Storage.
Your device shows a bar with free/used space plus categories like Apps, Photos, Audio, System. - Tap Storage → Free up space for Google’s cleaner.
Select item categories, then Move files to Trash to delete. - Toggle Smart Storage (Pixel) to let Android automatically remove backed-up photos when storage gets tight.
Brand-skin variations
Brand | Quick path |
---|---|
Samsung One UI 6 | Settings → Battery & device care → Storage |
Xiaomi MIUI 15 | Settings → About phone → Storage |
OPPO ColorOS 15 | Settings → About device → Storage |
> Strew is saying I’m trying to Print too many Activities
The current limit is 500, so you’ve been busy! If this is causing you an issue please do contact us.
> It’s printing my report in funny characters that look broken!
If you’re seeing weird characters or visual glitches in your reports it might be that your printer doesn’t have the font Strew’s using.
New: From v1.0.9 (early July 2025) you can now select which font to use when generating a home ed report. If you’re seeing these garbled texts when printing, please try to select a different “Font Style” before you hit print/generate – that’ll probably fix it!
> Printer not Working
Unfortunately we’re not there to be able to check over your printer. Some phones may not connect very well to some printers, if it’s playing up please try sending the report to your own email address and printing somewhere from a laptop or PC.
(Just remember to delete the report file for privacy best practices!)
